Steven Mathews
Mr. Steven Doyle Mathews, age 56 of
Franklin, Georgia passed away at his home on May 20, 2013. Funeral services for Steve will be conducted on Saturday,
May 25th, 2013 at 3 p.m. from the Prospect Church on Highway 34 West Franklin,
Georgia with Brett Mathews & David Persinger officiating.
Steve was born in LaGrange, Georgia on February 10, 1957,
the son of the late Doyle Huel and Emma Lee Mathews. Steve had an undeniable presence, tenacious spirit, and
huge heart. He would help anyone in need, even a stranger. He loved his family
and was close to each one. He also was an exceptional athlete. Steve loved
sports throughout his life and was on the first football team of Heard Co. High
School and was MVP. He was scouted for his baseball abilities by the Atlanta
Braves in 1975 with a batting average of .571 and 17 stolen bases. He was an excellent worker and had many skills but was an
electrician by trade. He was an employee of Heard County Concrete. He received
secondary schooling from Central Carolina Technical College & West Georgia
College for electrician degree. He also acquired CDL from Carroll Technical
Institute.
Steve is missed, loved, and survived
by his sisters and their husbands: Vicki & Tilman Levens, Jo Ann &
David Persinger; his brothers and their wives: Ronnie & Gina Mathews, Bobby
& Cindy Mathews; his nephews and niece: Barry Levens, Kane Persinger,
Elizabeth Watts, Criss Langston & Leilana; great nephews and nieces: Avery
Levens, Matthew Levens, Alexis Levens, Jacob Watts, Allyssa Quezada, Alaina
Quezada & Aaliyah Quezada.
Betty Jo Henley
Ms. Betty Jo Henley, age 50, of Carrollton, passed away May
17, 2013 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. Ms. Henley was preceded in death by
her father, John Alford Blair Sr. She is survived by her mother, Geraldine
Neill, Palmetto; son Jeffrey Bivins, Marietta; daughter, Brandi Shirah, Newnan;
brothers, Junior and Melissa Blair, Whitesburg, David and Theresa Blair,
Whitesburg, Ricky Neill, Carrollton; sister Pat and Rusty Johnson, Newnan; 1
grandchild, Nicholas Shirah; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be
held at 2 pm Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel with interment
to follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Palmetto. Pastor Terry Calhoun will be

Mrs. Lavada Gray
Mrs. Lavada McLendon Gray, 92 of Turin, Georgia died at
Piedmont Newnan Hospital on May 17, 2013. She was born on April 20, 1921 to the
late Albert McLendon and Mattie Chappell McLendon. In addition she was
predeceased by two sons, Wayne and Gregory Lyon. Surviving are her husband,
James T. Gray Jr.; daughters Nancy Henson of Griffin, Donna Mitchell of
Chatsworth, Linda Morrow of Whitesburg, and Zene VanLeevwen of Hogansville; 16
grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at
12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel. Interment will follow at County Line Christian

Mrs. Louise Davis
Mrs. Louise Huggins Davis, age 76 of Newnan, died at
Piedmont Fayette Hospital on May 12, 2013. She was born in Camden, South
Carolina on August 18, 1936 to the late Thomas Dewey Huggins and Carrie Hart
Huggins. In addition to her parents, she was pedecesed by her husband, Robert
Neal Davis, Sr. Surviving are her son, Robert Neal Davis, Jr. of Newnan;
daughters, Gwynne Patterson (Larry) of Newnan, Roberta Gilbert (Jeff) of
Franklin, and Joy Olmstead (Bryan) of Newnan; sister, Loretta Brackin of
Florida; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Higgins
Hillcrest Chapel with Pastor F.D. McWhorter and Dr. Melvin Payne offciating.

Mrs. Margaret Webb
Mrs. Margaret Rebecca Spencer Webb, age 84 of Newnan, died at her residence on May 11, 2013. She was born on December 31, 1928 in Troup County to the late Albertis Spencer and Mattie Hughes Spencer. She worked in the business office of Newnan Hospital and was a member of East Newnan Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, craft projects, and spent much of her time reading her Bible. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Eddie Webb, Surviving are her son, Danny "Scoot" Spencer (Shauna); grandchildren, Courtney, Emily, and Phillip; brothers, Jerry Spencer (Nancy), and Danny Spencer (Cathy); nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Howard and Rev. Frank Powers officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Lillian Lowman Dyer, age 93 of Newnan died at Doctor's
Hospice on May 9, 2013. She was born on March 5, 1920 to the late William Frank
Lowman and Carsie Bramlett Lowman. She was a product demonstrator for Kroger.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Dyer and is survived by her sons, Roy
Lawrence of McDonough and Kenneth Lawrence of Newnan; brother. Carl Gerald
Lowman of Jacksonville, Fl; sister, Lois L Perkins of Morrow; 3 grandchildren; 5
great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be

L.T. Tenney
Mr. L.T. Tenney, age 89 of Newnan, died on May 7, 2013. He was born on October 8, 1923 in Coweta County to the late George A. Tenney and Ruby Gill Tenney. He served under General Patton in World War II and retired from Ford Motor Co. in 1982. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. He was an ordained deacon at White Oak Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Christine Crawford, and brothers, Roger, Thomas, Bobby, Gerald, Allen, and Ralph Tenney. Maggie M. Hartley
Mrs. Maggie M. Hartley, age 87 of Newnan, passed way on March 23, 2013. She was born in Coweta County on April 24, 1925 to the late Alvin Hall and Dora Roberts Hall. She loved the Lord and her family members and friends and served them all her life. She operated a beauty shop at Star Crest Nursing Home and was given an award for her many volunteer hours. Maggie had extensive hours of Bible courses and also studied at Georgia State to teach Laotians. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Newnan where she taught Sunday School for 43 years and was inducted into the "Sunday School Teachers Hall of Fame" in Nashville, TN. She had a gift for writing and wrote a book about "The Cemetery Class (ladies 80-90) and also a book about her mother. Surviving are her husband, J.W. Hartley; sons, Jimmy Millians, Steve (Susan) Millians, Sam (Teresa) Millians, and Donald (Deloris) Hartley; daughters, Margaret Hunter, Susan Bell, and Becky (Mike) Bright; sister, Frances Morrell; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. John Dennis Jones
Mr. John Jones, age 54 of Sharpsburg, passed away at his residence on Monday, March 18, 2013 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 31, 1958 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Earl and Norma Jones who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Tracy L. Jones, a sister, Deborah (Jay) Kennedy, mother-in-law, Rose M. Wiggins, brother-in-law, Tommy (Debbie) Wiggins, and several other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Jones, and father-in-law, Herschel Wiggins.John enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, and working with his hands. He loved his friends and family, and most of all his wife, "Slick."
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Haralson with Rev. Drew Ross and Mr. Timothy Gowens officiating. Ms. Ada Youngblood, age 76 of Senoia, died at Thomaston, GA on March 16, 2013. She was a floral designer for Stacey's Flowers. She was born in Coweta County on January 28, 1936 to the late John T. Bishop and Martha Powell Bishop. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m.on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Harry Parkerson officiating. Sharon Lee Notestine
Mrs. Sharon Lee Notestine (Brown), 76, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Born April 18, 1936, in Whitley County, IN, she graduated from Churubusco High School. Sharon retired frm East Allen County Schools, where she served s cafeteria manager at Leo Elementary. Long time residents of Leo, IN, she and her husband Bob relocated to Atlanta, GA after retirement. She loved family reunions, fishing, playing cards and shuffleboard, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving are her children, Edwin and wife Debbie Notestine of Atlanta, Shareen Miles and husband Terry of Charleston, SC, and Eileen McWhorter and husband Terry of Atlanta; seven grandchildren, Dana (Sottnick), Sara (Day), and Brian Notestine, Nicholas and Mitchell Miles and Jake and Shelby McWhorter; brother, Dean Brown of Seattle, WA. She also had 3 great-grandchildren: Bradon and Ansley Day and Savannah Notestine. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Edwin Notestine and her brother Fay Eugene Brown of Columbia City, IN. Mr. Everett Hudson, age 84 of Peachtree City, GA died at his residence on March 13, 2013. He was born in Laurens County, GA on October 12, 1928 to the late Carlton Henry Hudson and Alma Brooks Hudson. He was a chemical salesman earlier in life. Surviving are his wife, Joan B. Mrs. Doris Dhaene, age 77 of Newnan, died at Tanner Medical Center on March 15, 2013. She was aborn in Smyrna, GA on June 8, 1935 to the late Harrison and Milla (Hendrix) Turley. She loved and cared for her family throughout her life. She enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers. Mrs. Jeanie Lynn Bunn, age 49 of Newnan, died at Cancer Treatment Center of America on March 15, 2013. She was born in Ashland, AL on September 4, 1963 to John C. Ingram and Virginia Moore Ingram. She was the "mother of the year" to her family for 28 years in a row (new record). Jeanie had military service affiliation for 20 years--a Marine wife for 13 years and an Air Force mom for 7 years. She has been a sports mom for 28 years in softball, baseball, basketball, football, and track as well as ballet. She was in the custodial department of the Coweta County School System. She loved the Lord and her church, Southside Baptist. Mrs. Annie Wellborn, age 87 of Sharpsburg, died at Piedmont Newnan Hospital on March 10, 2013. She was born in Oconee County, GA on April 9, 1925 to the late Joe Lewis Ivey and Susie Emma Griffith. She had various occupations throughout her life, but the one for which she would most like to be remembered was being a seamstress. Mr. Ollie Marion "Dood" Hosmer, age 76 of Moreland, passed away peacefully with family and friends by his side on March 11, 2013. He was born on June 25, 1936 to the late Thomas Monroe Hosmer and Rosie Eaton Hosmer. He retired from Franklin Products. "Dood" was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and he had a deep love for his family and church. His hobby was woodworking. Ms. Cathryn Gatlin, age 87 of Union City died at Southwest Christian Care on February 24, 2013. She was born in Franklin, GA on October 21, 1925 to the late Alexander Stephens Thompson and Lucy Morn Davis Thompson. She grew up in Newnan and lived in Atlanta where she retired from Civil Service at Fort McPherson. Cathy was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed reading, traveling, playing cards and being with her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Ronald S. Dr. Howard Hurley
Howard A. Hurley, D.V.M., age 79, died on December 31, 2012. Dr. Hurley was born in College Park, Ga., the youngest son of Archie Preston Hurley and Carrie Belle Satterwhite Hurley. He served our country as a member of the 4th Infantry 22nd Infantry Regiment in Germany during the Cold War. After doing his duty, he returned to the University of Georgia to finish his college work to receive his Batchelor Of Science in Agriculture in 1959. He was accepted into the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine and received his doctorate in 1962. Shortly after his return from Germany, he met his future wife, Charlotte Ann Hagan Hurley. They married in January of 1958. Together they worked to make certain the he could receive his degrees. After his graduation, they selected Newnan as their home. Dr. Hurley began his practice of large and small animal medicine. He worked to improve the residents of the county's impression of veterinarians. Often he worked for the county at no charge to the taxpayer. Dr. Hurley helped Sheriff Potts by doing a necropsy on an animal that had been shot execution style, which led to the discovery of the perpetrator of a murder. These services were done gratis, because he thought it was his civic duty to aid in any way possible. Dr. Howard A. Hurley is survived by his wife, Charlotte, loving elder brother Fred and his wife Janet, their children and grandchildren, brother Douglas and his wife Mildred and their children and grandchildren. Mr. Alton Reeves, age 92 of Franklin, formerly of East Point and Sharpsburg, died at Piedmont Newnan Hospital on January 3, 2013. He was born in Griffin, GA on June 22, 1920 to the late Edward Alton Reeves, Sr. and Kathryn Green Reeves. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and was a POW in the final days of war. He owned and operated McCord and Reeves Real Estate Company. His happiest hours were spent in Kiwanis work. In addition to all the community service hours, he enjoyed going to Kiwanis conventions and workshops where he brought joy to everyone he met. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Evelyne Kirk Reeves, and son, Rick Reeves. Lois Bayles Kearns
Mrs. Lois Roberts Bayles Kearns, age 88 of Sharpsburg, passed away on January 9, 2013. She was born in Wheeling, WV to the late Robert Roberts and Myrtle Clark Roberts. She lived in the East Point, GA area for many years, then later in Tyrone, GA and Sharpsburg, GA. She was the owner/operator of The Christian Book Store in East Point, GA for a long period of time. Mrs. Kearns was a former member of East Point Christian Church, a charter member of Westside Christian Church, and a member now of Peachtree City Christian Church. She loved to travel and to entertain.
Mrs. Kearns was predeceased by her husbands, Glen E. Bayles and Billy H. Kearns; son, Lowell R. Bayles. Surviving are her son, Mark Bayles (Cynthia) of Camas, WA; daughter, Joyce Bayles Spatz of Sharpsburg, GA; grandchildren, Erin V. Morrow, Andrea M. Paz, Garrett E. Spatz; 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel with Rev. Robert Tyler officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Gardens. Embry Lamar Hubbard
Mr. Embry Hubbard, age 72 of Newnan, died at Vitas Hospice on January 11, 2013. He was born in Coweta County on December 27, 1940 to the late Hoyette Hubbard and Sarah Hamby Hubbard. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and then worked for Wells Fargo for over 35 years. Later her was a security guard for Southern States Auto Auction. Surviving are her sisters, Marie Pannell (Jerry), Peggy Eartly, and Susan Yvonne Slatone all of Newnan; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2013 at Sargent Baptist Church with Rev. Royce Henley officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Greenville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, 12-2 p.m.
Lillie Mae Dunn Warren
Mrs. Lillie Warren, 81, of Newnan died Monday, January 14 at Southwest Christian Care. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Alvin Warren of Newnan GA; sons, Donnie (wife Charlene) Warren of Fayetteville GA and Larry (wife Vicki) Warren of Sharpsburg GA; grandchildren Bryan Warren (wife Jennifer) of Newnan GA, Eric Warren (wife Brandi) of Carrollton GA, Forrest Warren of Acworth GA, and Patrick Warren of Canton GA. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Annie Lee Melton; and two brothers, John Dunn and David Dunn.

Mrs. Mary Knowles, age 72 of Moreland, died at Hospice LaGrange on January 14, 2013. She was born on August 1, 1940 in Mobile, Alabama to the late Manuel Cross and Katie Gibson Cross. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Knowles, and grandchild, Kimberly White. She took great pride in being a hairdresser for many years. Surviving are her daughter, Deborah White of Moreland; special friend, Jim Van Davan; sister, Dolly Langley; grandchildren.LeAnn Newingham and Jason Chambless; great grandchildren, Kristal, Kelby, Brianna, and Matthew. Miss Louise Thomas, age 81 of Fairburn, died on January 17, 2013. She retired from Standard Oil Co. after 37 years of service. She loved her church, First Baptist Church of Fairburn, where she was a member for 76 years. She will remembered by all for the joy she gave to others. Louise was predeceased by her parents, and brother, Rev. Bill Thomas. Surviving are her sister, Ruth T. Mrs. Jane Storey, age 57 of Senoia, died at Piedmont Newnan Hospital on January 25, 2013. She was born in Fayette County on October 28, 1955 to the late Jasper Jones Brown and Mary Frances Farr Brown. She was a bus driver for Coweta County School System. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Render Storey, and sister, Deborah Clark. Surviving are her sons, Jamie Chappell (Doreen Meier) of Newnan and Phillip Storey (Ellen) of Griffin; daughters, Paula Chappell Hamby (Brad) of Sharpsburg and April Chappell of Senoia; brother, C.A. Mr. David Bishop, age 55 of Senoia, died at his residence on January 26, 2013. He was born in Greenville, GA on August 30, 1957 to the late Tommy Bishop and Shirley Shelton Bishop. He was a self-employed concrete contractor and a long time resident of Senoia where he enjoyced coaching baseball for many years. He enjoyed gardening and loved his family deeply. David was a member of Miracle Tabernacle Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Debbie; sons, John, David, and Matt; daughters-in-law, Kellie, Amanda, and Tiffany; brother, Wade Bishop; sisters, Sandra Bishop, Melinda Lee (Donnie), and April McCurry (Elie); 7 grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Mr. Robert Tau Gunby, Sr. age 93 of Sharpsburg, died at his residence on January 30, 2013. He was born in Jessup, GA on April 14, 1919. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in World War II and earned a degree in Animal Husbandry from the University of Georgia. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Norma Bunell Gunby. Surviving are his sons, Robert T. Gunby, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Texas, Cecil Gunby (Judy) and Kenneth Gunby, all of Sharpsburg. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Eldon Fred Thames. She was a retired school bus driver for Fulton County Board of Education. Mrs. Mary Alice Ballard, age 77 of Fairburn died at her residence on February 3, 2013. She was born in Athens to the late Joseph Madison Shepherd and Martha Louise Gibson Shepherd. She graduated with a B.S. Degree in Education from the University of Georgia where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Mrs. Ballard was an educator--teaching first in the City of Atlanta Schools, then Assistant Principal of M.P. Word Elementary School and lastly Principal of Evoline C. West Elementary School both in Fairburn. She was a member of the Georgia Senior Women's Golf Association and an active member of First Baptist Church of Fairburn. She is survived by her husband, her high school sweetheart, Randall Ballard of Fairburn; sons, Hal and Amy Ballard of Fairburn and Doug and Sue Ballard of Newnan; sisters, Martha and John McElhannon of Palmetto and JoAnn Nash of St. Simons Island; grandchildren, Chris and Lindsay Capps, Jennifer Ballard, Savannah Ballard, Linda Ballard, Noah Heath Ballard, Noah Bryant Ballard, and Joe Thompson Ballard; great grandchild, Hadley McDaniel Capps; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
