Jeff and Mary Higgins
Jeff and Mary, along with their family, own and operate Higgins Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home in Newnan
as well as Higgins LaGrange Chapel Funeral Home in LaGrange.
Jeff was born while living in the upstairs apartment of Higgins Hillcrest Chapel. He lived in the chapel until three years of age. He attended Woodward Academy in
College Park for 13 years, graduating in 1985 to proceed to Florida State University,
University of Georgia and Georgia State University. He is also a graduate of Gupton
Jones College where he was honored to be a member of the Pi Sigma Eta Fraternity, a
scholastic based honor fraternity for mortuary science. Jeff married the former Mary
Cook in 1989. Mary also serves the funeral home in the capacity of assistant
administrator. The couple has two sons, Jeffrey and David. Jeffrey is a student at Georgia
Tech and David is a freshman at Georgia Southern University. Jeffrey is a Sigma Chi at Tech,
and David is in the pledge program of Sigma Chi at Georiga Southern. The Higgins are members of the
Unity Baptist Church in Newnan where Jeff is the part time Director of Music.
Jeff has led church music in local churches for over twenty years and has served
on many local charities and fund raisers. He has had the opportinity to sing at many
events throughout the years including the Alliance Theater in Atlanta, the Southside Theater
Guild,the National Anthem at the Atlanta Braves game as well as the privilege
to sing with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra among other things. Jeff coached his older
son's baseball team for over a decade in Sharpsburg and had the privilege to
coach his younger son's football team in Peachtree City for many years. Fishing, hunting
and water skiing with their parents are the boys past times outside of sports. Family is
obviously very important to the Higgins family. As a licensed funeral director and
embalmer in the state of Georgia, Jeff and his family are here to serve your family
in your time of need.
Glenn and Darlene Higgins
Glenn and Darlene have been involved in the funeral industry for over forty years.
Glenn served as a city council member for the city of Fairburn for over twenty
years, served as a deacon, little league coach, board member for Advocates For
Special Citizens, Rotary, Kiwanis as well as other charities and groups. He was
awarded through the Fulton County Government, "Glenn Higgins Day" on the calender
for his work with the less fortunate. Darlene is directly involved with the daily
operations of the funeral home. She is the administrator as well as the licensed
insurance agent on the staff. She is responsible for filing all the necessary paper
work on behalf of each family. This may include death certificate filing, Veterans
Administration, Social Security, insurance, as well as any other areas in which families
may need her help. Darlene is Past President of the Kiwanis
Club of Coweta County. Glenn and Darlene are both members of the Unity Baptist
Church where Darlene sings in the choir. After a preneed account has been
established through one of our licensed funeral directors, Darlene is able as an
insurance agent to place these monies in state approved providers. She will serve
your family in any capacity where she is needed.
Bryan joined the staff almost ten years ago as a funeral assistant to families. He
helps in all of the daily operations of the funeral home including funerals as well
as visitations. Bryan also serves as one of our staff chaplains. He is married
to the former Robin Bishop and is a life-long resident
of Newnan. They have one son, Sammy, who is seven years old, and a daughter, "Becca" who
is two. Bryan is the pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church here in Newnan, where
he has served for over 15 years. Bryan and his family are here to serve
the community in any way they can.
Wilma has been a member of the staff for over twenty years and for many
more years before that as our pianist. Wilma retired from the Newnan Utilities as
the Commission Treasurer with over thirty-one years of service. Dan, her husband,
was a fireman for the City Of Newnan for over 36 years, retiring as Captain over fire
investigation. He was a part of our staff until his death in September 2012.
They raised two sons in Newnan, Greg and Gordy. Wilma is a member of the Central
Baptist Church where she still enjoys playing the piano when needed.
Wilma (being part of the Higgins family as a cousin) works all visitations and
is here to serve you in any way possible.
Carlos (Butch) Hemperley
Butch joined our staff as our business grew with a second location in LaGrange, Georgia. Butch is a fourth generation funeral diretor and is the Funeral Director in Full and Continous Charge of our Newnan location. He has literally been in the funeral business his entire life. His family owned and operated the Hemperley Funeral Home in East Point, Georgia for many decades. Butch is a past President of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association and has held many other positions throughout his long tenure in the funeral business. He and his wife Linda, also a licensed funeral director, live in Newnan. The Hemperley and the Higgins family combine for over 150 years in the funeral industry--trusted names that are here to serve you.
Dave has been associated with the Higgins family for nearly forty years. He and his
wife Dyan live here in Newnan and are members of the First United Methodist Church
of Newnan. Dave retired from Eastern Airlines and then worked for many years at the
Chick-Fil-A headquarters. He has three children; his youngest, Todd, is a local
businessman here in Newnan. Dyan is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Coweta County.
She is a retired school teacher for Coweta County. Dave is here to help you in your time of need.
Brian is a trusted member of the staff as a funeral assistant to families.
He helps in all the daily operations of the funeral home including funerals and visitations.
Brian also serves as one of our staff chaplains.
. He is married to the former Lori Eberhart and they have two children: Eleena who is ten,
and Brian, Jr. who is nine. Brian is pastor of Rehoboth Baptist Church
where he has served for a number of years. Brian is available to help families in time of need.
Christie Crawford Hayes
Christie has been a life-long friend of the Higgins family, growing up with Jeff
and Mary. She graduated from the Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service, and is a
licensed funeral director and embalmer in the state of Georgia. She is married to
Scott, has two young daughters, and makes her home in Newnan. She owns
Christie Hayes and Associates Real Estate here in Newnan. Christie is a valued
funeral director to our firm.
Chase lives in Newnan and graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service and is a funeral apprentice.
He works with us full time while competing his internship as a funeral director/embalmer. He graduated from
East Coweta High School and makes his home in Newnan. Chase is a valuable asset to our business
and is here to help in whatever capacity he is called to do.
Terry is a native Coweta Countian. He retired as the Chief Juvenile Intake Officer for Coweta County
where he had opportunity to help many young people through the years. He pastors Living by Faith Church
in Newnan. He is married to Vickie, who is employed at the Summit Healthplex. Terry is a funeral assistant
and works all visitations. He is here to help any family in their time of need.
